"There’s a bar in Austin, Texas that was owned by Willie Nelson and it was called the Soap Creek Saloon, on Congress...
One night, ... the band just finishing up for the night and who comes walking in but Stevie Ray Vaughan and Tommy Shannon from Double Trouble. Stevie had heard about the band and wanted to play with the group. They got up and played a few numbers with the girls [the Golden Echoes] and then we stayed up on the stage for about 45 minutes and jammed some blues stuff. It was a real treat to play with that guy because, to me, he was one of the all-time greats of the Blues. I knew Tommy from the 1960s when he played bass for Johnny Winter and it was good to see him again."

Just a couple pages left in the book... Loving it... We were friends back in Austin.. I was the bartender at Soap Creek Saloon. I was at all of Jimmy's shows and especially remember the one where SRV showed up... Heck there were only about 5 people there that night... They played longer than Jimmy remembers... I know, I had to lock up that night... Great memories... [R.T.G. 04/27/2014] | ||
